WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS WEEK
1-11-16  to 1-15-16

Coin Wars
Coin Wars will be continuing through this week. Each day all classrooms will continue collecting coins. This week we will be collecting:

Monday - dimes
Tuesday - Dimes
Wednesday - Quarters
Thursday  - Quarters 
Friday - any coins

All the proceeds will go the Kipling Kindness Connection. Kipling Kindness will be using the proceeds to purchase the materials needed for all students to participate in a philanthropic event that will take place on Friday. Students will be assembling teddy bears that will be brought to a hospital to provide comfort to sick children. 

This week we will be doing a lot of reviewing of skills as we approach the end of our quarter system in our district grade level learning maps.

ELA
Grammar
  • continuing working on pronouns 
  • long vowels with a silent e
  • /j/ sound spelled ge and gi
  • syllable patterns
Literature
We will review all the fiction and non-fiction books we read about animals. In this review will will revisit the skills. . .
  • ask and answer questions with key details.
  • identify the reasons an author gives to support points in a text.
  • continue to identify and compare the text features in fiction and non-fiction texts.
MATH
We continue working on. . .
  • understanding that the two digits of a two digit number represents the amount of tens and ones.
  • 10 can be thought of as a bundle of ten ones called a ten.
  • comparing two digit numbers based on the meanings of the tens and ones digits and recording the results of the comparisons by using >, <, and = symbols.
SCIENCE
  • make daily observations of our hermit crabs
  • research different animals and make comparisons of their similarities and differences
LEADER IN ME
This week we will review Habit 4 - Win Win. We will review what win-win means. We will then listen to the story, "Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns about Sportsmanship." After listening to the story, students will write about how this story is an example of a win-win situation. They will also tell about a recent win-win situation that they experienced.
