A Fabulous Friday!

Friday was one of my favorite days of the year, Someone Special day. We started this last year and it was an instant success. I truly enjoyed meeting all of my students' special someones and they could not have been more excited to share our classroom with people dear to their hearts. It was a half hour of pure happiness! Look and see for yourself.

Mystery Reader
Mrs. Varnado came Friday afternoon to be Mystery Reader. Students enjoyed listening as she read a story to the class.

Kidblog
We had fun going into Mrs. Cacioppo's Class to work on our Blog about Someone Special Day. Mrs. Cacioppo's students helped us with a new feature on Kidblog, uploading a picture.

Tomorrow is Day 2 on the specials schedule.
We have music and art.

Have a very Happy Thanksgiving!
Enjoy your time with family!

Star Leaders of the Week
A couple weeks ago we launched our Star Leader of the Week activity. Each week a binder goes home with a student who will be the "Star Leader" for a week in school. During a student's "Star Week," they will have some special activities to do. Below is what the week looks like for the "Star Leader."

Here are our first two "Star Leaders!"

Sharing her Star Leader Board.

Reading to the class.

Showing her gymnastics talent.

Our second "Star Leader" sharing his Leader board.

Sharing clues he created for his Mystery Bag.

Reading to the class.

Mystery Reader
Last week Mr. Yale came in to be our Mystery Reader. It was Friday the Thirteenth and Mr. Yale brought in the perfect book. He read, "Amelia Bedelia Tries Her Luck."

Science
In science we have been studying the parts of a plant. To really understand the parts and their functions we are growing our own plants from seeds. Here are some pictures as we observe our seeds and then plant them.

We Skyped!
Last week we had two Skype experiences. Our first one was with Ms. Smart in England. We got to meet the teacher she is now working with and one of her new students. Our second Skype was with our new e-pals. They are grade one students from Mrs. Maley's class in Saskatchewan Canada. We are going to be doing more Skypes and activities with her class throughout the school year. How cool is this!! Mrs. Cacioppo's class joined us for our first skype, as they will be Skyping with one of the other Grade one classes at the same school. We learned that we like to play with the same toys, we are about the same age and they learn French instead of Spanish at their school.

On Thanksgiving. . .
Last week we had homework to find out what we will be doing on Thanksgiving. This week we took our graphic organizers and turned our ideas into sentences. We made a turkey to attach to our writing. We had fun making the tye-dye turkey feathers.

Fact Families - Who's in Your Family?
We have been learning about fact families. We played a fun fact family game. We each got a card with a number sentence on it. We had to go around the room and find the other three number sentences that belonged in our fact family. We then sat down with our fact family and each family explained what made them a family.

I think we are now all caught up
on the latest from Room 5!
