Words Their Way

Students worked with a partner today to do a blind sort with their words for the week. In a blind sort one partner has to say the word and the other partner has to write the word under their correct header without looking.

Mystery Reader

Mrs. Krasny was the Mystery Reader today. She got all the students ready for Halloween with a story called "Little Shop of Monsters." 

Pic Collage

Students learned how to use a new app today called Pic Collage. We did a short vowel review activity. Students took 5 pictures of things that had each of the short vowel sounds. They then uploaded the pictures into the collage. They labeled all the pictures with the appropriate vowel sound and then gave their collage a title. Once their collage was complete, students uploaded the collage into Showbie. Showbie is an app that allows students to send me assignments to see, review and comment on.

Fourth Grade Buddies

Today we did our very first activity with our fourth grade buddies from Ms. Karasick's class. Her class came into our room. Each first grader met a 4th grader that will be their buddy for the rest of the school year. Buddies spent the first 5 minutes or so getting to know one another. We then did our first activity. Both first and fourth graders practiced Habit 5 from Leader in Me: Seek to understand, then be understood.  To do this, students joined buddy groups together. One buddy group had to act out a scenario with no words. The other groups had to watch. When the scenario was complete the other groups had to try to guess what was being acted out. The activity was much like charades however the idea was not guess as quickly as you can, but to really wait, watch and then after they have all the information, guess what the scenario was. The buddies had a great time together! We can wait for our next meeting!
