ELA - New Theme - Animals
We will begin a new theme this week on animals. This theme will go for the next nine weeks. This will integrate nicely with the our current science unit on plants and animals. This week we will:
- Begin reading and discussing the story "Lulu and the Brontosaurus"
- ask and answer questions about the story
- retell the story - including key details and information
- identify the problem
- identify the solution
- understand the central message in the story
Math
Students will begin learning about the commutative property of addition (8+3=11 so 3+8+11). We will also be looking at the associative property of addition. This property shows students that the grouping of addends does not matter. 2+6+4 = 2+10 = 12.
Science
This week we will learn about leaves, flowers and fruits on different plants. We will also do our first investigation. Students will grow plants and observe the plant parts first hand that we are learning about. Students will then be using the information learned to design a tower that can stand up.
Leader in Me
We have officially learned about all 7 habits in Leader in Me. Moving forward we will spend time reviewing and doing weekly activities that identify and practice these habits. With continued focus, we will move from practicing the habits, to the habits being just a way we will always do things without thinking - a habit!
