Mystery Reader

Today was our first parent Mystery Reader. Mrs. Santelik, Joseph's mom started off our day by reading "If you Give a Moose a Muffin." Students enjoyed the story and Joseph was definitely surprised to see mom in his classroom.

Don't Let The Pigeon Drive the Bus!

Students have been working all week on punctuation. They have learned about declarative (.), interrogative (?), and Exclamatory (!) sentences. Students have have acted out these punctuation marks and sorted sentences with these punctuation marks. Today students listened to the Mo Wilems story, "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!" This story is an excellent way for students to identify all three kinds of punctuation and discuss why the author chose to write the way she did. As a follow up to the story, students created their own pigeons and wrote talk bubbles to express what they wanted their pigeon to say using the different punctuation marks. Students loved this extension! First grade looks as if a family of pigeons are nesting in our hallway!

Just a reminder that next week,
Monday will be Day 5 on our specials schedule.
