Mystery Reader and Our Fourth Habit - Win Win

Our Mystery reader this week was Mrs. Sutic our Assistant Principal. She came and surprised us with two stories. The first was a Dr. Suess favorite, "Are You My Mother." The second story was "Rainbow Fish." We used the story of "Rainbow Fish" to launch our discussion of the fourth habit, Win-Win. Win-Win is about wanting not only success for yourself, but also for others. Students identified how Rainbow Fish wanted friends. The other fish wanted sparkly scales. Rainbow Fish gave up his scales to make the other fish happy and in turn made friends. It was a win-win for all the fish. After discussing the story, students wrote about a time in their lives that was a win-win situation.

Monthly Memories

At the end of every month Students will brainstorm all their best school memories of the month and then write about their favorite. Today was our first monthly memory. After brainstorming ideas, students used a graphic organizer to get their initial thoughts down. They then turned their thoughts into sentences and illustrated a picture about their memory.

Science

We began our first science unit on plants and animals. Students will be looking at how plants and animals are like others of the same kind. Today students made some observations of a tiger. They then used the online student notebook to write about what they wonder about the tiger that they saw in the picture.

Educreations

This week we have been looking at adding and subtracting and how a number line can be a good strategy for solving addition and subtraction number sentences. Today students used the App Educreations to show their understanding of this strategy. Students drew a number line and wrote a number sentence. They then made voice recording to describe how to use the number line strategy to get to their answer.
